Marmosets as Family Pets

Owning a pet, whether it is exotic or not, comes with certain responsibilities that you must be willing to accept to keep your pet healthy and strong. Marmosets can be great family pets if you are aware of what type of lifestyle they need and what diet they require.

Marmosets are considered to be monkeys and are originally from somewhere around South America. Marmosets are one of the smartest primates that are still alive. Because they are so smart, they require constant changes in their diet to make sure that they do not become bored with their everyday life. This may seem like a hassle, but it will help to keep the marmoset interested in the feeding and types of food it gets.

Marmosets will eat a variety of fresh fruits and vegetables, depending on what you have available to feed it. It will also eat yogurt, some cooked beans, and pasta. This may seem like a strange diet, but monkeys eat just about anything you will choose to feed them. If you are in the process of training your marmoset, you can use sweet items, such as marshmallows, cake, or pudding, to treat your monkey. These should only be used sparingly as a treat to the monkey. They should not be given on an everyday basis.
