Having A Horse
In almost every little American girl’s dream exists either a pony or a horse, usually a tall thorough-bread with long black, silky hair. Most parents, with enough money, would be ecstatic about making their daughter happy by purchasing the perfect horse for her. It is important to remember, though, the immense commitment a horse requires in resources, time and affection.
Horses are not easy animals to take care of. They require a pasture, free from hazards such as holes, old farming equipment and rusty metals, so that they can run free and get enough exercise. Safe fencing is also a requirement. The fencing must be made of wood or plastic so that the animal cannot hurt itself, but it also must be tall enough to contain the animal. A horse on the loose can be dangerous for the community and the horse itself. Grazing grass or some type of quality hay is also a much needed necessity to ensure that your horse maintains a proper diet. Shelter and clean water are also key items for living.
The amount of time you spend with your horse is very important. Horses are social animals and require the company of others for their psychological well-being. Also, spending more time with the horse gives you a chance to monitor its behavior and check for injuries to make sure that it is happy and healthy. It may also be a good idea to have another animal such as a donkey, mule or pony so that your animal will not feel lonely.
The principles outlined in this article are only a few of the things that a horse requires for proper care. If you have further questions about what it takes to take care of a horse contact us at www.miamiveterinarianclinics.com .
