Allergies and owning a Dog

Normally, dogs and allergies don’t go well together because of the adverse reactions they elicit. If you are a dog lover, however, there are a number of breeds that you could get without the bad allergy reaction.

Pet dander is the dead skin that flakes off your pet. This pet dander is what makes your allergies act up, because it flakes off in the air. You should remember that there are many breeds available that don’t produce a lot of pet dander, which will help your allergies.

There are many breeds of dogs that have less pet dander and will trigger less allergic reactions. These are special breeds such as the Cockapoo, Bichon Frise, Chinese Crested, Miniature poodle, Maltese, and Toy poodle. Remember, these are just a few of the different breeds that would be good choices for your allergies.

Although choosing a dog like this can help your allergies, there are many preventative measures that you can take to ensure your allergies don’t act up as much. One of the first things that you could do would be to vacuum and dust on a weekly basis. By doing this extra cleaning, you will help to clear your house of any dust particles stuck in your carpet. Another thing you could do would be to wash your dog no less than twice a month. By scrubbing your dog in the bathtub, you will ensure that you get some of the pet dander off in the water instead of in your home. All of these are options to help alleviate your allergies and let you keep your friendly companion.
